The little kids I’ve worked with tend to draw smiley Jesuses, even on the cross. It’s irrational, yes, but it reflects their feelings about Jesus, rather than a knowledge of crucifixion. I don’t know if suspension makes any sense, but I’d sure call for backup.

Inquire? yes. Suspend for psych eval? It is the extent of their actions that puzzle me when a few questionss could have cleared up the mystery.

Johnson, the child’s father, stated early Tuesday that his son drew the picture Dec. 2, just days after the family had visited display of Christmas lights at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro. There, he remembered, his son seemed taken with the religious statues he saw. “When he seen [sic] the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, that’s what he drew,” Johnson said. “He liked that. That drew his eye.”

Of course the other side of the story is with so many sue happy parents teachers may be encouraged to overreact rather than get in trouble for not doing enough.
