re: #773 Obdicut
What I’m saying is that there was not a strong overlap between people who had valid scientific theories about the universe and atheism before Darwin.
Agreed.
I give all credit in the world to the scientific achievements of people who were laboring pre-Enlightenment, pre-scientific method, pre-world community of scientists, and pre-Darwin. However, I see no point in pretending that the achievements in the structure and philosophy of science haven’t resulted in an order of magnitude more science.
I think what we can agree upon is that the early scientific work was absolutely necessary for eventual improvement to the structure and philosophy of science. But imagine what a mind like Aristotle’s could do in the present day, with a modern framework of scientific discovery!
I have to agree. How boring. :(
Also well put.
I considered nitpicking a bit about mathematics, but it was just minor quibbles. I think we’ve reached equilibrium in this debate. It was a nice one though! :)
How about religion for our next round? ;)
