re: #767 albusteve

half the country needs to be slapped to their senses…I wonder, even posters here…have they traveled across America and stayed to visit?…lived and worked in different regions?…sat down with blue collar folks for lunch and conversation?… have they hung out with simple, average Americans?…elitism…spending all your time in a large metropolis, bent over a keyboard…and when they travel they leave the country for sophisticated, exotic places, instead of waiting in lines at an amusement park with everyday folks?…..people just don’t have a clue anymore what America is and what Americans are

Agree with you, and I’d only add that america is such a huge country and so diverse— it’s not only the people living in a metropolis that should see more of America, but everyone in America. People in other places in the US should also come to the metropoli (?) not just to visit, but to talk with the people who live there.

I’ve travelled and lived in enough of the US so that I get angry when Americans try to stereotype one region of the country, and I’ve lived in other countries and been completely enraged when people abroad think they know “what America is.”

America is incredibly diverse, complicated, and truly the last place on earth that’s easily reducible to stereotype.

Frankly, I blame the media for this. The beltway media is constantly promoting their sneers at “the heartland”, while also flinging poo at “elitists”.
