My opinion is that if the generals had any discussions about what they could do to nudge the tide of events in the direction of no coup — beyond resigning — we’re never going to know about it. Anything more would probably be illegal, and would risk a perceived military dictatorship, as Mouse et al noted. (That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t do something more drastic, if necessary, just that they’d make sure it would never be known.)

And with that, it’s time for me to toddle off to bed.
