Do you really believe they actually think these “solutions” through before tossing them out to show that they are “doing something”?

The UK govt has written to thousands of Germans living in Britain to ask them to “consider returning” to driving trucks. Most of them never had, but were in some database of potential truckers because old German driving licenses could be used for vans.

“Grandfather drove his Panzer all the way across France and always dreamed of crossing the Channel with it!!!”

The big issue I’m seeing is that most foreign workers are basically being told that they’re welcome to come work in Britain, but they’re not going to be allowed to stay. Nor can they bring their families over, which would mean being away from home for months or longer when there’s plenty of jobs in mainland Europe that will allow you to bring your family along and even offer the chance at eventual citizenship. And atop all that is the reality that most of the companies they’re trying to draw these workers to are resisting any talk of raising pay, continuing to argue that lorry driving is “unskilled” labor.
