Egypt didn’t want it also for that very reason - they didn’t exactly have a handle on the Gaza Strip and it is far more radicalized that Egypt proper (filled with Muslim Brotherhood types that later morphed into Salafists, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terror outfits).

Another distinction was that Gaza wasn’t part of Egypt proper prior to 1948 - it was part of Mandate Palestine. It wasn’t like they were getting back their own territory as in the case of Sinai, but Israel was hoping to unload the territory on Egypt to administer rather than deal with that burden.
