And in years past, it would have. But the GOP’s desperation to get back into power drove them first to make impossible demands, only to find out that a growing faction in their party refuses to back away from those demands. The leadership strapped on a bomb vest, not realizing that it had a remote trigger in the event that they got cold feet.
