With the Tevatron in mothballs, the Brookhaven Laboratory collider now faces possible closure due to budget cutbacks

As with manned space flight, some things are now just proving to be too expensive for the US to undertake. We will budget cut ourselves slowly backwards. It may take decades for the totality of the change to become large, but we are definitely pulling back on what we are willing to spend.
