Sleep? Sleep is for sissies…

No, I did not see the link you shared. While it has some insight, I believe it is in error when it comes to the funding of “skeptics”, as it only discusses a single company’s (Exxon) funding path (conservative foundations.) It totally overlooks the fact that the energy sector is one of the largest in the world and billions of dollars are spent on advertisement and in lobbying.

I would agree that there is some cognitive dissonance going on, though I am not sure I would assign that to the actual people on the negotiating floors and rooms.

It is just a UN meeting, but not in NYC. This is what you get when you have 193 nations all wanting a little bit of limelight.

I do not believe the current process, the UNFCCC, itself will lead to material mitigation efforts. Perhaps it could be good for some adaptation processes.

The G20/G27 meetings are possibly a better venue, because this is really an economics issue. The idea of limiting CO2 in the atmosphere is just another type of pricing “scarcity”, and remember that economics is the study of scarcity.

As I’ve mentioned several times here, I am convinced that we will need to do triage and ought to plan for it. I have not faith that Homo sapiens (in the current state of evolution) can mitigate a multi-generational multi-national problem of this magnitude.
