The general is always under control of the president or a dictator himself in which case he is no longer just a general. Sorry you refuse to get that.

The general is under control of the president in the president’s role as Commander in Chief. The president is a combined military/civilian figure. As is a dictator.

It is just goddamn ridiculous to fight against the actual, literal definition of martial law: Troops in the street enforcing law, not under control of the civilian authorities, holding trials in military courts.

Saying it is not martial law in no way takes away from the overreach that it is. It’s just goddamn accurate. There is no reason to be sloppy in terminology just because it sounds cool.
