Gov. Christie should be getting slammed for campaigning for this cretin. NJ Democrats are calling on Christie to withdraw his support. Christie had previously attacked Akin over similar comments.

New Jersey Democrats today called on Gov. Chris Christie to revoke his support for U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, the Indiana Republican who has come under fire saying that pregnancy resulting from rape can be “something that God intended to happen.”

“I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God,” Mourdock said at a debate Tuesday, according to The Washington Post. “And I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

Democrats quickly seized on the comments and compared Mourdock to Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, who’s also running for Senate. Akin was widely criticized from the left as well as from within his own party for saying that women’s bodies can prevent pregnancies in “a legitimate rape” and that conception is rare in such cases.

Christie called Akin’s comments “blatantly absurd” and said he “wouldn’t campaign for a guy like Todd Akin.” Christie’s office did not return messages seeking comment on whether he would denounce Mourdock’s comments.

On Oct. 17, Christie lent his support to Mourdock with a fundraising event and a campaign rally in Merrillville, Ind.
