True. In Europe, bright colored clothes are considered “American”, and that adjective is understood to be derogatory. If you want to wear colour, that’s what scarves, ties & socks are for.

Interesting. And yes, I would assume “American” would be understood to be derogatory. The kids have also received numerous behavior warnings and advice.

I thought Michelle’s outfit in that photo was hideous - colorful, but NOT good color for her. And it does indeed look like drapery.
