Fun fact: due process of law within the American system (and the wider Anglo common law) actually requires that the trier of fact and trier of law not have a verdict in mind before hearing the evidence. Saying someone should be shot by firing squad for treason when there’s been no trial, kind of runs afoul of that general principle.

Tell it to the Marines. No…really.
