Definitely poor phrasing, but it’s a forgivable mistake.
I worked in the gaming industry for several years and interacted with Asians of many nations, and I guess my point was that it’s a little bit inaccurate to assume or imply that “Asians” in the US are a monolithic block. Each Asian country’s citizens have their unique traditions,attitudes and self-perceptions (and, like all good humans, prejudices). To assume that “Asians” respond similarly is to demonstrate a lack of insight.
You can’t really judge how another nation’s citizens are going to perceive damage. This does NOT originate from Korean-Americans. It originates from South Korea. What we consider merely harmless and stupid might just be perceived differently by the offended party.
