I would bet they are drawing on the idea that abortions were rampant in China during the one-child policy days because boys were preferred over girls. Because commies and librulz are the same things. Fact is, while abortion is legal in China, and can be forced by the authorities, it was not as rampant as many Americans believe. Many families found ways to have more than one child, girl or boy.

There are something like 5% more boys than girls born, always has been, but boys have also always had a slightly higher infant mortality rate (they’re more likely to be sickly) and a higher rate of childhood accidents (probably because parents let them do riskier sports or rough-housing). By the time kids are 10, the gender ratio is almost 50-50.

When IVF allows parents to do gender selection… it was a HUGE surprise to every researcher that significantly more parents choose girls than boys. Theories abound as to why, but there’s no definitive answer.
