When my mom was pregnant with me my dad insisted on buying a nice electric guitar to celebrate, and establish a cool heirloom. My mom hated the idea, they were already cash-strapped. My dad borrowed half the money from his dad and bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom. In 1981.

That’s the guitar I learned how to play on. It’s at my pops house, alongside his 10 other electric guitars.

His most recent purchase was a Cordoba about two years ago. He’s never told me how much he paid for it, my mother only says “several thousand dollars.”
