I don’t want to get Lazik surgery; something about shining laser beams in my eyes.

I can’t wear contacts due to astigmatism.

I had to battle with my grandparents (I lived with them after my father was killed for several years) to get an eye exam at all - my grandmother was convinced I was faking poor eyesight to get attention (really, and she was a teacher). Her claim was “brown eyed people don’t need glasses.” (I have no idea where that claim comes from.)

You can wear hard contacts with astigmatism. I know. I wore them for over 50 years, before cataract + lens implant surgery.
