re: #79 calochortus

She has had a long and generally honorable career. She has also stayed too long, for which I am sad.

I am not generally in favor of age or term limits. My House district was fortunate to have the long and tireless service of Louise Slaughter, who was as sharp when she died in office at 88 as she was in her 60s. She was an excellent Ways and Means chair for much of her tenure, and later a ranking member, since she didn’t live to see the 2018 election and the regaining of D majority control.

To have made her step down at an arbitrary age, say 75 or 80, would have deprived us of excellent service from her.

But I think Feinstein should have had the good sense to have stepped down herself before her last election.
