Explain the dead bodies… 220,000+ dead bodies thanks to Trump’s disastrous covid19 response. You’d think he be proud of that disaster. He shrugs it off. He lies. He dissembles. He blames Fauci. He refuses to take responsibility. He ignores that the economy he wrecked due to his failed pandemic response will not fully recover without controlling the spread of covid19.

He infected his latest wife and youngest son, and he doesn’t care. He never did. He is a sociopath who cares only about himself. Same as ever.

re: #19 Dread Pirate Ron

perception is a helluva thing…. I sit back and think of things like cooperation, bipartisanship, courtesy, and following norms and standards and those are actually good ideas, those are traits that I like to support and nurture. In general…

but to trot those out after the last four years seems naïve, stupid, and out of touch. After watching them throw this farce together and trot out this candidate who would roll back societal progress of the last 75 years and then thank the strident asshat that catapulted this into place with his own shining hypocrisy seems woefully out of touch.

As mentioned above, those traits are good ones, when the other side is weaponizing them you have to understand when you’re being played and apparently Senator Feinstein is no longer aware of when she’s being played. I hope Schumer could inform her of just how shitty it all looked and how she has now given a modicum of cover to the theft in progress and gave a tacit wave of compliance to everything this farce entails.

If Ronald Reagan’s Solicitor General Is Talking Court-Packing, It’s Getting Real
Charles Fried reads the likely prospect of a near-permanent 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court for the complete anti-majoritarian disaster that it certainly will be.
By Charlie Pierce

So, when someone like Charles Fried suggests that, if all else fails (and it likely will), the only alternative will be taking the constitutional option of congressional action to expand the court, it puts a considerable political throw-weight behind the proposal—even more so, because Fried advises Joe Biden to go about it carefully, and suggests from history the possibility that the mere threat of expanding the Court might be enough.

F.D.R.’s move is viewed as a rare failure by a master politician. But was it? Immediately after unveiling his proposal, the court ruled 5 to 4 that the Wagner Act, restructuring American labor law and relations, was constitutional, and a spate of pro-New Deal decisions followed. The very threat of court packing and the passage of time made this “nuclear option” unnecessary. Let’s see if the current Supreme Court majority overplays its hand. If it does, then Mr. Biden’s nuclear option might not only be necessary but it will be seen to be necessary. But for now, let him not overplay his hand.

Shit’s getting real on this.

There was a debate last night I think, I missed it. Loeffler and Collins spent most of their time attacking each other according to the local news. Warnock is pretty good about staying on message, he’s also very steady and stays on point better than his opponents, who seem to have adopted Trump’s “debate” style. So there’s that. hi

My wife and I just got back from the hospital, grocery shopping, and returning our ballots to the county courthouse.

The courthouse is open again, the county having caved to Gov. Ricketts’s threat to withhold CARES funding.

There are armed guards at the hospital entrance. The only people allowed in are staff and patients. They’ve apparently had trouble with others and with anti-maskers.

The grocery store on the way home was disappointing in folks distancing or wearing masks (I would estimate about 30%). Additionally, the store has removed all their floor markings for social distancing.

I saw only two Trump displays on the sixty-mile trip: One house in my county decorated in Christmas lights that create a giant US Flag and “Trump” spelled across it, and one flag in Scottsbluff violating the US Flag Code flown from the same staff as the National Ensign with the words “Trump 2020: Make Liberals Cry Again.”

Constitutional amendment to outlaw slavery as criminal punishment (voted yes, the GOP has been advertising very hard here to turn out a no vote)
Write-in for Preston Love (D) for US Senate (Nebraska Democratic Party endorsed candidate)
Write-in for state district court 3 (the village chairwoman is the only person running for the seat, as a write-in; assuming she wins as the only candidate, that will open a seat on the village board and I will run for it)
Natural resources district and Western Nebraska Community College board members (voted for the Dems)

Prosecutor never even considered homicide against the cops who killed Breonna Taylor. They started with the wonton endangerment and looked to lesser charges from there.

Homicide was never once raised by the prosecutors. They fixed it so that the grand jury had no choice but to consider these ticky-tack charges that show prosecutors cared more for cops shooting drywall than murdering an African American woman in her own home.

It’s an outrage that Cameron, a McConnell ally, cared nothing about pursuing justice for the murder of Taylor but it’s not fair to minimize the actual charges as “shooting drywall”. It is not unheard of that an innocent bystander is harmed or killed because a shot penetrated a wall. For example: local21news.com.

I am not generally in favor of age or term limits. My House district was fortunate to have the long and tireless service of Louise Slaughter, who was as sharp when she died in office at 88 as she was in her 60s. She was an excellent Ways and Means chair for much of her tenure, and later a ranking member, since she didn’t live to see the 2018 election and the regaining of D majority control.

To have made her step down at an arbitrary age, say 75 or 80, would have deprived us of excellent service from her.

But I think Feinstein should have had the good sense to have stepped down herself before her last election.

Great ad. I’m watching the game and caught it. I haven’t seen any Trump ads all fall. Not that I’m complaining that Brad Parscale scammed Trump.

Trump was in on it too.

Why wait for Thanksgiving? We have Halloween on a sat night. Why not party till we die?

The money trail is going to be fascinating.

Between Deutsche Bank and the China account, though, I think the thing that we really need to start thinking about is that the idea of nations fighting through influence operations and espionage is outdated.

The new world order is cross-state entities that mingle the functions of corporations, organized crime, and nation-status. “Russia” as a world actor is no longer a country, it’s a gang wearing a nation like a hermit crab wears a tin can. “China” isn’t a Red Communist menace, it’s another neo-colonial debt-trap operation that happens to find it useful to play with ethnic nationalism.

Groups and individuals that talk in entirely different frameworks, who claim different roles and mantles of ideology and social standing, are functionally identical: what they do is the same.

Will everyone please stop talking about court-packing and eliminating the filibuster until after we’ve won the Presidency, the Senate, and the House. We are tempting the Fates and they do not take kindly to those who have assumed success before achieving it. Or as my late MIL would say: “Man plans, and God laughs”. There are so many adages warning us not to take anything for granted — and given the mindless loyalty of so many to this abominable man and the resources that Putin and his minions are deploying right now to aid in his re-election, we cannot count on anything. If the results go our way, we can then all breathe.

But, as someone who is very superstitious and has throughout my life seen hopes repeatedly dashed, I cannot believe that the best will happen, that truth and justice will prevail. All this optimism is too reminiscent of 2016 — and yes this is a different year, different Democratic candidate, a Republican running on his record (which his cult all extol despite evidence to the contrary) rather than mythical promises to future accomplishments — but 2016 looms large over us all.

I didn’t know that this could be checked. Did a Google search, found the URL, entered some info and bobs-your-uncle, my ballot had been accepted. Straight line Democratic voting. I won’t vote republican for any office at any level for the remainder of elections in my lifetime.

Will it come with an electric-powered smoke generator (for “rolling coal”), or is that more likely to be an aftermarket accessory?

The other thing: he is probably coming down pretty hard from steroid withdrawal, and it might be very hard to fight against that. He couldn’t handle the steroid high; may not be able to handle the withdrawal.

I have seen bodybuilders coming off a steroid cycle and yes they do get those manic mood swings when they cycle off. You can tell because they won’t preen and pose in front of the locker room mirror…

On the local ballot:

….
Write-in for Preston Love (D) for US Senate (Nebraska Democratic Party endorsed candidate)

Too bad Janicek was such a jerk and did not withdraw. Lisa Murkowski did win as a write-in, but then Alaska is much smaller then Nebraska, with less than 40% of the population. But who knows? It’s sad because Sasse would be so vulnerable to the right Democrat.

You have a Dr monitoring you. But there are those narcissistic bodybuilders who think they know it all and really go whole hog into juicing…and then when they have liver cancer, renal failure, strokes, mental illness, degenerative arthritis, brain tumors and/or congestive heart failure I wind up working their disability claims…
