Neither Byrd nor Kennedy are in good health. Kennedy has been battling a brain tumor (malignant glioma). Byrd’s abilities have come under increasing scrutiny as chair of the Appropriations Committee as he’s missed meetings and his staffers have picked up the slack for him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both men.

When senators or justices get so old or so ill that they can not do the job, but staffers must do it, they need to leave the office.
