no nono… “elections have consequences” is a conditional. It only applies to one party. Kind of like “don’t criticize the commander in chief during wartime,” or “up or down vote no filibusters”.

I don’t get ‘elections have consquences’. That seems self-evident. Someone wins the election. Then they’re dog-catcher, or Senator or whatever. Why do people say that in such ominous tones?
