A story from the war in Iraq is good perspective when debating torture.

I thought it was odd how it was OK to try to kill him by dropping a bomb on his head, but once that didn’t work soldiers were expected to put him on a stretcher instead of just shooting him in the head to finish him off.

War by rules is inherently bizarre. But as crazy as those rules can be, they’re better than no rules at all.

IIRC, al-Zarkawi’s sixteen-year-old wife was in the building when they bombed. Somehow I don’t think they were high school sweethearts. War sucks a whole hell of a lot.
