That’s a tough one because AFAIK there is not enough data on Neanderthal mortality to come to any conclusion.

The high infant mortality among modern humans in the West from Antiquity up to the modern era may be the product of high population density and poor sanitation. Humans living more sparsely and in a hunter-gatherer society are not the same thing. Ancient hominid population density is not something which can be stated with high confidence, I think.
