I know that, and I already acknowledged it. It would only be to fill out the remaining term. That is not a guarantee that Republican would win the seat in the next election cycle. That is what I am talking about.

You should know that Ohio is far from a red state. We do a good job of keeping a balance. If we had a stronger Democratic State organization we would probably be a bit more Blue than Red.

And, the state is changing. The parts of Ohio that always lean Republican are being changed by the fact that a lot of small town, farm communities and poor Appalachia areas are disappearing as the larger metro areas growing bigger and bigger.

I can speak for Columbus. This city is booming and taking in a lot of rural Ohio youth. Once in the big city their thinking changes. The GOP will face tougher and tougher times in this state.

And of course you know Ohio had a lot to do with electing Obama. And Kasich knows it.

Kasich would be smart to put a centrist Dem in an empty seat politically. And he is John Kasich…you just never know. A move like that would actually help him and his party in my opinion. He always claims he can work with this state’s Democrats. Piss off Columbus, Cleveland, Akron and Toledo any further than he has and it could cost the GOP in the future.

No, that wouldn’t be smart. He’d be branded a RINO and effectively read out of the party. A Republican centrist could work, but not a Democrat.

I do agree that Ohio Republicans and Republicans more generally need to be better at creating conservative policies that can work in a city, which will mean not being phobic about commuter rail among other things.
