re: #80 Hecuba’s daughter

So Cameron made the disastrous call for the Brexit referendum and quit; May could not figure out a graceful way to handle this — maybe there was never one; and Labour is led by Corbyn, a walking disaster on his own. Are there any politicians in Parliament who have the skill to work through this in either the Tories or Labour? Do any of the smaller parties have capable leadership? Is a new election needed?

A new general election will probably be the ultimate outcome; that being said, the logical solution would be to go to the people and explain clearly and concisely that there is no way to disentangle the UK from the EU without causing perhaps irreparable damage to the economy and the livelihoods of millions of people and thusly, Article 50 is to be revoked and the UK will remain in the European Union.

Whomever would be tasked with delivering this unhappy news would have to recognize that it’s going to be a type of political seppuku, done for all the world to see. But the British simply need to accept that they no longer live in the days when “the sun never set on the British Empire” and that ‘Rule Britannia’ is nothing more than a pleasant ditty that needs to be forever consigned to the history books. The curtain has come down on that era of Britain’s history and they absolutely must acknowledge it, not try to escape to a heavily mythologized past.
