I would assume that this Imam being a bridge builder and a moderate would have to agree that the site where the towers came down and the area surrounding it represents some of Islam’s darkest hours. Why then does he insist on putting it there?

Also why is he so inflexible about moving it given the opposition to it by so many?

My guesses: they need a community center in Lower Manhattan.

He knows the area represents Islam’s darkest hours. He’s trying to show a better face.

He may have gotten his back up. I sure as hell would have.
