Public office is service to the nation. It is no less serious than military service. To abandon it for your own selfish desires is desertion, at least in the moral sense. If you lack the capacity to continue, if your family can no longer endure your service, perhaps, perhaps, there is a case. If you just see an opportunity to make a buck - well, that’s pathetic.
