The added costs of those vehicles are a tax on car purchases. It takes money that can go to other purposes, and instead demands payment to obtain these vehicles.

Higher fuel economy and lower emissions are worthy goals, but the means by which this Administration (and past administrations for that matter) have distorted the market and unintended consequences of the CAFE standards have included the rise of the SUV and contributed to the destruction of the domestic auto industry because SUVs were a prime income generator for the smallish 3. That’s going to come to an end with these standards.

Besides, not everyone will benefit from hybrids. In fact, switching to other conventionally powered vehicles could make a bigger difference.
