The problem with electric cars is not the power, it’s the batteries. The batteries have only had a limited range, and that is getting better. However, the best batteries currently only have a 200 mile range versus the higher ranges with gasoline and diesel. There is also the added problem of shortened battery life in cold weather conditions such as those we have in the northern tier of states and Canada. The other problem is recharge time. Refilling a gas tank takes about five minutes tops. Recharging a battery can take hours. Not very useful for long trips.

the question was rhetorical….technology will catch up if demanded…how would a few million electric cars stress out the grid now?….there is not enough energy at hand to make them viable…nuclear reactors here and there would reverse that problem
