Rand Paul on Trump: "Someone Has to Point Out to the American Public That He's a Fake"

The hilarious thing about Trump campaign is it’s the Emperor’s New Clothes of GOP internal politics. Much time and energy into gussying up and justifying the various vices and -isms of appealing to the base, making them sound like “serious” policy. You can’t look at a transcript of a Trump interview or Q&A and claim he’s focused or on point. He’s a full-on patent medicine salesman, all gleaming generalities, big emotions, and theatrical contempt for the “losers” that question. He routinely says nothing.

Even if—and personally, I think its when—Trump quits, the success of his performance demonstrates something about the bloc that likes him: that you can’t put a merkin on their utter credulousness and pretend that there’s some deep, thoughtful undercurrent that’s driving their anger and acting-out.
