For consideration: Jet fuel is a hell of a lot harder to ignite than the 87 octane stuff you put in your Volkswagen. Psycho shooter might not have known that.

He was a pilot and owned 2 planes in the past. He was probably aware.
I wonder what he wanted to do with all the explosive material in his car, and why (thankfully) he stopped shooting after 10 or 11 minutes.
