The party was never stable to begin with: despite all its attempts to present itself as a “mainstream” party that represents the interests of economically anxious and politically alienated “concerned citizens”, it draws much of its support, energy and ideology from the rabidly racist & xenophobic right.

If AfD fractures - which it probably will in the long run - then they’re finished, especially if they break apart into multiple competing factions, each chasing the same electorate.

I’d think they’re too extreme to be easily merged into one of the mainstream German political parties.
