John Adams thought we’d celebrate the 2nd of July, because that’s the day we declared Independence. The 4th is the day we adopted the Declaration. (It was actually not signed until August, when they were done making the pretty copy for everyone to put their best John Hancock on. Including John Hancock.)

They forgot, on the 2nd, so instead we started celebrating the 4th.

And John Adams would not have insulted a veteran.
