Yeah and sure enough Iraq as a nation state in 2020 resembles the Balkan states of 1914. We also don’t have a diplomatic apparatus that inspires confidence at all. Makes me all the more nervous about this.

It’s just amazing how many people I see taking the position of ‘But a bad guy died, and that’s that, didn’t he do the world a favor?’, like the very fucking concept of diplomacy is so alien to them that it simply doesn’t exist. Which, I’m not sure is all that much better than the overt contempt for diplomacy the maladministration has.
