Before he became an anti-radical-Islamist, Bruce Bawer wrote a good book called Stealing Jesus where he looked at the origins of Fundamentalist Christianity. Essentially, it started in the early 19th century, and has zero claim on any sort of heritage or status as a “First Century Christian” movement.
