Democrats have been, over the last ten years, generally opposed to global engagement. They supported the Afghanistan war, but not so much the Iraq war even at the start— and definitely not now.

So, you can expect those numbers to keep dropping as long as we’re involved in an actual conflict.

The GOP, on the other hand, has been a big fan of global intervention, nation-building, and the like. They vociferously supported Bush in this, even going so far as to say those not supporting the president in a time of war were traitors.
