Yes, the Obama=Hitler thing does cheapen the Holocaust and also WWII. However, one must also separate Nazi racism from fascism. Fascism had existed previous to Nazi racism’s control of Germany. Italy did not persecute Jews (and others) to the extent of Germany by 1938, and had been fascist for about 17 years at that point. Franco’s Spain never really went after religious and ethnic minorities as much either. Both were more interested in destroying their socialist and Marxist enemies as well as keeping classical liberals at bay.
