And that last line of your’s, in the above comment, may be the crux of the whole problem. When people get to the point that they no longer feel that their existence in the political process makes for a hill of beans, one of two things can happen.

They will become totally apathetic and go off grid, or they get frustrated and possibly dangerous.

Yes, those are both extremes, but humans tend to swing far to one side of an emotional issue.

You combine the possibilities of a country with a citizenship in that mental state, you’ve got big problems.

I predict big problems…govt is turning up the heat and it will go bad for all of us…maybe I’m too pessimistic
