I clicked on the link to the Washington Times as well. That’s “new article” is basically an op-ed masked as a news report. What Obama said was in the speech he gave on the 9th:

“If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

Immigration reform which is the same thing that President Bush supported during his term of office.

That’s still not a back door process as stated in this op-ed piece. It’s still subject to the same legislative process as it was last go around.
