I can never remember what month the car’s license expires, and have driven as much as three months with expired tabs. Never gotten stopped, though.

Now, if you lived in Washington, your license would have to be expired four years before you have to take any test, written or behind-the-wheel. Don’t ask me how I know….

We get a renewal notice for our tabs in MN. You can send the notice back with a check and you get your tabs about 2 weeks later. The cops will pull you over right away if your tabs are expired (I found out once after I’d moved and didn’t get the notice). The cut-off for date for retesting is after one year of expiration in MN.
