Hey Gak - 1-4 inches? That’s not considered a blizzard in, say, New York City! Y’all better get your terminology updated out there in Indiana land and envrions! LOL! One to Four inches of snow constitutes a blizzard?!

In the United States, the National Weather Service defines a blizzard as sustained 35 mph winds which lead to blowing snow and cause visibilities of mile or less, lasting for at least 3 hours. Temperature isn’t a factor, and neither is the actual amount of snow that falls.

You can have blizzard conditions without any actual snowfall. See Mt. Washington on a near daily basis for what happens when the winds pick up and the snow that’s on the ground starts flying (ground blizzard).
