Of course, I still find it sort of amazing that we elected him in the first place, so I suppose I can’t quite make my mind up about the exact extent of ingrained racism in the U.S.

The US is not that racist. It really isn’t. It is a testament to how marvelous this place is that less than 8 years after a terror attack, perpetrated by brown people with funny names that shook this nation to its very core, that same nation turned around and elected as President… a brown person with a funny name. No nation on earth save a First World Western nation could do that, and I’m pretty sure most of them still wouldn’t.

Those feeling the conservative anger aren’t, I think, bemoaning their failed policies or the like. Like I said, I don’t think they are especially invested in policies as a whole, except maybe one or two hot-button issues that vary from person to person. I think they’re upset and angry solely because those are the emotions that are manipulated in them daily by the media they follow and the people they associate with, who follow the same media.
