Why do Jews by and large vote for Democrats?

I think it starts with Harry S. Truman, and ever since, a significant percentage of Jews have voted Democrat because of his support at Israel’s creation ever since.

Why the Jewish community continues voting D is one that has been studied and dissected, but it comes down to the fact that Jews appear more comfortable sticking with what they know (warts and all) than taking chances with the other - the GOP (and all their warts).

After all, Carter is more than willing to sell out Israel at the first opportunity these days and thinks Israel is a bigger evil than Hamas. Yet that isn’t getting people to reconsider their political affiliation or voting habits. President Obama was heading down a similar path, and while many Israelis find Obama less than trustworthy, American Jews aren’t jumping ship just yet. I think they realize that they can’t just jump ship unless they’ve got another ship to go to and the GOP isn’t it.
