re: #879 Cato the Elder

Well said Cato.

On a slightly different tact, those using the anti-Semite brush so liberally to paint the Pope and other institutions might do well to consider how the overuse of the charge of racism has worked over the last 30 years US. A charge that once had the power to end a debate or silence a critic more often then not draws nothing more than a sigh and rolled eyes today.

Williamson is an extremist being marginalized by himself, his schismatic order and Rome. Continuing to refer to him as a Catholic Bishop and hanging him around the neck of the Pope is offensive to many Catholics and counterproductive. I am no longer a practicing Catholic but even I am offended by the broad characterizations many critics here and in the media are lodging against the church and it’s leadership.

Israel needs friends more than ever today. I think most Catholics, at least those not generic bigots you find in any organization, consider themselves to be pro-Israel. Let’s not let the media create a scandal when there really is none.
