Next—the appeal. Sorry for that little turd in the punchbowl, but this is not over. Still good news, though.

On appeal, he’ll have to prove that there was some legal error committed - it’s not like he gets a do-over on the basis of the original trial. It’s certainly possible that there was some reversible error committed, but normally appeals fail, because judges are careful to follow the rules. Appeals can only succeed if the rules have been broken - it’s not like you get to argue your case again.

You’re right - it ain’t quite over yet. But the chances of this being overturned are pretty slim. The main reason for filing appeals is to delay final judgment - sometimes, to keep a client out of jail a while longer; in this case, probably, to keep a client in the spotlight a while longer. Ultimately, though, he got his compensation from the University already - a whole dollar - and he accepted it.

Maybe we could start a campaign to get people to mail him some of these items so he’s better able to defend himself.
