And for RW forgot to add - two masts in this case equals a ketch.
Sloops are one mast, other variations depend on which mast is taller, or how many foresails you have. (sails in front of the mast - ie., Cutters)

Well thanks for the education! Though for some reason I seem to remember that Privateers (pirates) liked using sloops and the ones I’ve seen on the History channel were two masts, with the larger one behind the shorter one.
And is there a generally acceptable “length” between a boat and a ship?
