But…in a way, THAT is the crux of the whole debate. If a fetus is NOT a human being, then abortion has no problem at all. However, if a fetus IS a human being, then abortion has a host of ethical implications and problems.

I suggest you read the opinion.

The assumption of many is that the Court ignored such issues. In fact, it did not. What it did do, what Justice Blackmun’s barely consensus opinion did, was to address those concerns without presuming to render judgment on them as, again, that is beyond their capacity and responsibility. Especially if you understand that the notion of when human life begins is largely a religious concept about which the major religious groups in the U.S. do not necessarily agree.
