re: #65 Former Belgian

What always wrily amuses me about the whole “first black president” story is that, according to Kenya’s population classification, his father was 1/8 black and 7/8 Luo (which are considered Arabs and are generally Muslim). You and I may see a Luo and a “real” black next to each other and not be able to tell the difference, but apparently it’s a big deal for them (think Hutus vs. Tutsis in Rwanda —- we wouldn’t be able to tell them apart).

Now since Arabs are considered Caucasian in the USA, this makes him… 15/16 Caucasian.

Zombie was on to something when (s)he said that the REAL embarrassment with any “nirth certifikit” would be if it listed “Caucasian” anywhere…

He’s never denied being biracial. Quite the opposite.

I have to admit, it will mean something special to me when the first American of formerly-enslaved, Yoruba, been-in-America-since-1680 ancestry is elected, and I can see that being African-American is sort of a chosen ethnicity for Obama, but he’s black enough for government work, so to speak. I don’t go around criticizing other people’s ideas about their ethnicity, and I ask that they leave mine about mine alone.
