He’s been completely consistent on this issue from day 1.

Absolutely right — I did not “backpedal” on anything. But then, I actually read the DHS report, and I suspect many (if not most) of the people complaining about it didn’t. They’re getting their misdirected outrage from distorted accounts on blogs and right-wing radio.
