There are a number of us here who have done b&w photography at one time or another. I prefer b&w film to digital, though I’ll use the channel mixer in Photoshop if need be.

Here’s a nice quick pro tip that saves time over the channel mixer, while still getting excellent results:

1.) Create and stack two Hue / Saturation adjustment layers above the layer to be converted into B/W.

2.) The top H/S layer should be in color blending mode with saturation set at -100 (full desaturation).

3.) The lower H/S layer should be in normal blending mode, with zero (normal) saturation and zero lightness adjustment.

=Now you can use the hue slider on the lower H/S adjustment layer to apply all possible color filters in one smooth motion.
